With a shift to cooler and wetter temperatures, the ODF West Oregon District is officially terminating fire season effective 12:01am on 10/10/2023. With fire season being lifted, backyard burning will be allowed- please call your local fire department or burn line to obtain permits and any additional instructions. Burning slash generated from industrial forest operations still requires a smoke registration and burn permit before lighting- call your local ODF Unit Office for more information.
Our area is expecting an El Nino weather pattern this winter which may bring us warmer and drier conditions, so if you see sunshine and wind in the forecast, please make sure any burn piles are properly mopped up and are being monitored. Remember to check the conditions and not the calendar. Residents are required to have a permit to burn yard debris. The city of Newport has instituted a new online burn permit process. The link to sign up for a new burn permit is available on their website at www.newportoregon.gov/dept/nfd/. Click on the tab that says “Check in before you burn”.
