UPDATE:
The driver of the Lincoln County Transit Bus is identified as 62-year old Kenneth Cram of Newport. The adult pedestrian is identified as 24-year old Jordan Harris of Newport. The child was 3-years old and his name will not be released.
The investigation revealed that Harris and the child were off the roadway at the bus stop on Hwy 101 near MP 137. The southbound Lincoln County Transit Bus left the lane of travel, and struck Harris and the child at the bus stop. According to Lincoln County Transit the driver may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the incident.
Multiple law enforcement agencies and other first responders immediately
assisted and provided care to the pedestrians and the driver. The crash remains under investigation.
On November 17, 2021, at approximately 8:33 A.M., Newport Police and emergency personnel responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Hwy 101 near MP 137 in Newport. Preliminary investigation revealed two pedestrians (an adult male and juvenile male) were waiting at the bus stop at the location, and were struck by a southbound Lincoln County Transit Bus.
Both pedestrians were transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, and then transferred to a Portland area hospital via Life Flight. The identity of the pedestrians and driver is not being released at this time. Traffic on Hwy 101 was slowed on Hwy 101 for one hour, but remained open. The Newport Police Department was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Newport Fire, and Pacific West Ambulance. This is an ongoing investigation.
