Lincoln County is seeking two new members to serve on its Planning Commission.
The nine-member commission plays a key role in the administration of land use
planning within the unincorporated areas of the county, conducting public hearings and
helping to make decisions on local land use applications and permits. The commission
also reviews and makes recommendations on amendments to the Comprehensive Plan
and land use regulations in Lincoln County Code.
The commission is seeking one member from the north area of Lincoln County, which
comprises all territory north of Cape Foulweather, including all unincorporated areas
and the cities of Depoe Bay and Lincoln City. The commission is also seeking one
member from the central area of the county, which includes all unincorporated areas
between the crest of Cape Foulweather and Beaver Creek, including the cities of
Newport, Siletz and Toledo.
Per Oregon Revised Statutes, “No more than two voting members shall be engaged
principally in the buying, selling or developing of real estate for profit, as individuals, or
be members of any partnership or officers or employees of any corporation that is
engaged principally in the buying, selling or developing of real estate for profit.”
Because two sitting members of the commission work in the real estate industry, new
members cannot be employed in real estate.
The commission typically meets every few months, depending on land use applications
submitted to the Lincoln County Department of Planning and Development.
People with questions can contact Planning Director Onno Husing at 541-265-4192.
Applications are available on the county’s website at tinyurl.com/LCPCApply or
available in Room 108 of the Lincoln County Courthouse in Newport. Alternatively, paper applications can be obtained in Room 108 of the Lincoln County Courthouse located in Newport. This is an excellent opportunity for community members who are passionate about land use and development to contribute to the shaping of their local environment.
