On February 20th, 2020 at approximately 4:50 PM, State Police Trooper Davey conducted a traffic stop on a Buick Lesabre for failing to use its turn signal and failing to maintain lane at Hwy 101 and 20. During contact with the driver, identified as 57-year old Dennis J. Smith of Depoe Bay Trooper Davey observed multiple indicators of impairment. Smith consented to Safety Field Sobriety Tests and performed them poorly. He was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail where his blood alcohol level was measured at .00%. He did not want to participate in a drug recognition evaluation, but provided a urine sample. The car was secured on scene and Smith was cited and released for DUII-Controlled Substances and Possession of less then 2g of Meth.
