On 4/4/21 at approximately 1:14 am State Police Trooper Wertz was dispatched to a single vehicle roll over crash, involving a tan Buick sedan on hwy 18 near mile post 3. The car was eastbound and negotiating back-to-back curves when it drove off the eastbound shoulder. It continued across a steep embankment and struck two road signs before it began to flip end-over-end. The car came to an uncontrolled rest on its top, partially blocking the eastbound lane.
The driver, identified as 50-year old Theodore Vanderhoof of Beavertson self-extricated and was later transported to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital for complaints of pain. Trooper Wertz contacted Mr. Vanderhoof at the hospital and during a crash interview he exhibited numerous signs of impairment and reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the crash. A hospital blood draw showed the driver had a .296% Blood Alcohol Content. He consented to a blood draw for law enforcement and was later cited and released on the charges of DUII - Alcohol, Reckless Driving and Criminal Mischief II.
