High Wind Warning

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the central coast fom 2pm this afternoon (Saturday March 12) until 5pm tomorrow (Sunday March 13). South winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected near beaches and headlands. Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines and widespread power outages should be expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

A period of strong southerly winds will occur ahead of a cold front Saturday afternoon. A second period of strong southwesterly winds will occur late Saturday night. During the storm high surf is possible. Breakers up to 23 ft could produce large waves and dangerous surf conditions. People can be swept off rocks and jetties and drown while observing high surf. Higher than normal water run-up is possible on the beaches and low-lying shoreline. It is suggested to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
