Hwy 18 Crashes-One Fatal


On April 10, 2022, at about 11:30 A.M., Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 18 near milepost 49. Preliminary investigation revealed that a gray sedan with four occupants was traveling west on Highway 18 when for unknown reasons it left its lane of travel and collided head-on with a motorhome driven by 67-year old Herman Hulshof of Canada. Both vehicles became engulfed in flames from the collision.


The four occupants of the gray sedan suffered fatal injuries from the collision and were pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed. The driver and passenger of the motorhome were uninjured.

Highway 18 was shut down for over five hours while the Oregon State Police conducted the investigation. OSP was assisted by the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, McMinnville Police, McMinnville Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released when available.


On 4/5/2022 the driver of a black Dodge Dart was traveling East on SR-18 when at around milepost 13 lost control of their vehicle while negotiating a curve. The car rolled over onto its top and blocked the eastbound lane. The driver 36-year old Otoniel Fuentes Garcia of Lincoln City had visible injuries and refused medical treatment. The passenger 35-year Shanna M Martinez also refused medical treatment. Fuentes was warned for careless driving and cited for driving uninsured and no operator's license. State Police Trooper Kanbara found that Martinez also had a misdemeanor warrant out of Yamhill County. She was arrested and transported by Grande Ronde Tribal Police to Yamhill County where they were to be lodged.


On 4/6/2022 at around 12:50PM, the driver of a Chevrolet pickup a 63-year old man from Willamina lost control of their vehicle while negotiating a curve on SR-18 around milepost 9. The truck veered off of the highway and into an embankment. The driver suffered no injuries and did not need medical attention. T Lincoln County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
