Incumbent Claire Hall will meet challenger Rick Beasley in an old-fashioned, one-on-one debate Saturday, Aug. 17, in Depoe Bay. The pair are running for an open position on the
Lincoln Co. Board of Commissioners in the November election. The event will take place 2-3:30 p.m. at the Depoe Bay Community Hall, located at the harbor entrance on Bay Street (turn east at the stoplight on Hwy. 101). Doors open at 1:40 p.m. sharp.
Both candidates submitted six questions to a debate committee, with three from
each being selected. Moderator Bill Klein, voice of the Loyalty Days Parade, will pitch those
six questions and six more conjured by the committee, then allow the audience to join in
with questions followed by two-minute answers. Sponsored by the Lincoln Co. Republican Central Committee, the “Q&A debate” has been promised as a non-partisan affair. Joan Crall of Waldport, who heads the chapter, said both candidates have committed to attending.
“We offered to host this debate, as it looked like one was not going to be scheduled,” said
Joan. “We have committed to holding the debate in a non-partisan fashion, which we are
happy to do. It will be a level playing field.” Meanwhile, the League of Women Voters of Lincoln County and Oregon Coast Community College will host a Fall Candidate Forum Oct. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at OCCC. The event will be moderated by former state representative and ex-county commissioner Jean Cowan.
