State Police Trooper Plummer responded to a report of a cougar that charged a man and his son in Lincoln City. According to the complainant, he and his son were picking up garbage in a wooded, marsh area outside the fence around the storage unit where he is employed. He saw what he thought was a deer on a trail going uphill SE of his location. It turned out to be a cougar. The man told Trooper Plummer that the cougar charged them and chased them to the gate, where they were able to get away unharmed. The cougar was not located during a search of the area, and no tracks or scat were located. Information was provided to ODFW for follow up, and to Lincoln City Police Department in case additional calls come in.
