On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, officers were dispatched to a burglary at the Lincoln City Dutch Bros location after a suspect shattered a window to enter the store. The suspect was unable to open a cash register and fled the scene empty-handed. The following day, April 9, 2025, officers responded to another burglary at the Lincoln City Human Bean, where the same suspect broke a window to enter the store, stealing approximately $150 before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at about 2:00 PM, a Lincoln City Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy Trailblazer suspected of being involved in these burglaries. Officers arrested the driver, 47-year-old John Albert Herriges of Salem, Oregon, and booked him at the Lincoln County Jail on multiple charges: two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree theft, and attempted second-degree theft. Following the arrest, officers obtained a search warrant and seized several pieces of evidence after which the vehicle was impounded.
It is worth noting that Herriges had a 48-month sentence for multiple counts of burglary in 2021. In 2022, he was again arrested, convicted, and sentenced to 42 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections for multiple residential burglaries. These recent crimes are similar to others reported in Lincoln County, and further investigations are ongoing.
The Lincoln City Police Department advises businesses to invest in security measures such as audible alarms, video surveillance, and secure safes to enhance the security of their locations. They also recommend training staff to report any suspicious activity. The department would like to thank the local businesses that provided surveillance footage during this investigation. With the support of the close-knit community, Lincoln City police officers were able to resolve this issue quickly and hopefully prevent further victimization.
