In an effort to prioritize regular season play, ensure physical distancing capabilities for spectators, and eliminate internal athletic events bringing multiple teams together in Lincoln County, the Lincoln County School District has decided to cancel the Lincoln County jamborees scheduled in Newport, Toledo, and Lincoln City for 8/26-8/27. In addition, Newport High School Volleyball made the decision to cancel their 8/28 12-team Newport High Volleyball Tournament.
Majalise Tolan, Director of Secondary Education and Athletics said they look forward to beginning standard two-team regular season play following all guidance from Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA), Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and Governor Brown’s Office. This guidance includes masks for all indoor spectators, non-competing athletes and game management staff, and coaches.
Per the most recent requirements, beginning 8/27, actively practicing and competing athletes are not required to wear masks, however, masks are required outdoors when physical distancing is not possible, such as when closely sitting near those not in family pods, standing on the sidelines waiting to compete, spectating in the stands or congregating around a start and finish line to watch. She added "the district is looking forward to our 2021-2022 athletic season."
