Students Encouraged To Apply During College Application Week

Lincoln County School District will join more than 100 high schools and community-based organizations around the state in hosting Oregon College Application Week events on November 2 - 6 and throughout the month. The goal of the week is to assist all seniors as they apply to some type of post-secondary educational option, including certificate programs, two-year degree programs, and four-year degree programs.

During College Application Week the district's 346 senior students including Waldport High School, Taft High, Newport High School, and Toledo Sr. High, will participate in a variety of college awareness activities hosted by the College and Career readiness staff (counselors, graduation coaches, GEAR UP teams, and ASPIRE coordinators) in a district-wide digital College Application Week experience.

The Superintendent of Lincoln County School District, Dr. Karen Gray, encourages all seniors to consider applying, "There are many ways that students can envision and enhance their future. One key factor in my life is that I believe in the importance of education and know that having had a college experience has opened doors for me. It doesn't matter if you decide to attend a two-year, four-year, get an advanced degree, or attend a technical training college. Any further education will help you realize your dreams. A degree is yours to keep."

Oregon College Application Week is a statewide initiative coordinated by Oregon Goes To College, a statewide initiative of Oregon GEAR UP. It is a participating program of the ACT Center for Equity in Learning’s American College Application Campaign. For more information, visit oregongoestocollege.org. During the CAW each day is a focus on a specific activity that students need to be aware of when applying to college:

  • Monday: Apply

  • Tuesday: Scholarships

  • Wednesday: Essay Writing

  • Thursday: Financial Aid

  • Friday: Celebrate!

Each school has a variety of activities planned and students can check with their schools for specific details. For example, at Newport High School there will be a kick-off with food and packets on how to apply to college on Monday with a list of the week-long activities available via drive-up to Newport High from 11:30 - 1 PM. Thank you to Big Foot Beverages for sponsoring kick-off events at all the high schools.
