On August 14, 2024, at approximately 03:37 am, Lincoln City Police Officers responded to an active alarm at the Chocolate Frog in Lincoln City. Upon arrival they found the front door glass had been shattered, and after a search of the business, determined property had been stolen.Later that morning,after viewing surveillance video and receiving information from citizens that a possible suspect was in the area of the business. Officers located 49-year-old Oscar McCrae Jr of Salem. As Officers attempted to contact McCrae Jr, he fled on foot.
Responding Officers conducted an extensive search of the area, and narrowed down the perimeter to a wooded lot off of NW Jetty Ave. Officers then issued calls for LCPD K9 Nix to relocate to the wooded lot, causing McCrae Jr to announce himself and come out of the brush. He was then taken into custody without incident. McCrae was transported and lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on charges of Theft in the Second Degree and Escape in the Third Degree, as well as on multiple outstanding felony warrants from Marion County and the Oregon State Parole Board.
During the investigation, Lincoln City Police Detectives recovered property stolen from the Chocolate Frog, and seized drug paraphernalia. The investigation is still ongoing and additional charged may be filed. Anyone with information relevant to the case should contact the Lincoln City Police Investigative Division at (541) 994-3636. Lincoln City Police expressed gratitude to the citizens who provided the vital information leading to this arrest. They added the department is truly grateful for the citizens of this community who come together and support each other, and ultimately assist with investigating the crimes our community members face.
