On 06/09/2023 at approximately 3:42 p.m., State Police Trooper Goodey responded to a collision involving three vehicles on Highway 101 just south of Moolock Beach. Investigation showed the driver of a white Toyota Crossover identified as 72-year old Michael E. Walas of Newport was parked on the northbound shoulder, when he tried to merge back into traffic and was struck by a northbound grey Chevrolet sedan that was unable to avoid the Toyota.
A southbound white Toyota sedan, was unable to stop in time and the Crossover and the Chevrolet. A passenger from the Chevy was taken by Pacific West Ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport for minor injuries. OSP was assisted on-scene by Newport Police, Newport Fire, Pacific West Ambulance, and ODOT Incident Response. Mr. Walas was issued a violation citation.
On 06/03/2023 at approximately 10:35 am, a two-vehicle collision occurred on Highway
101 also at Moolock Beach when a green Kia Soul, drove into oncoming traffic and caused the driver of a commercial motor vehicle, to drive onto the shoulder. The collision was unavoidable and the driver of the Kia, 75-year old Timothy J. Adams of Depoe Bay struck the trucks trailer by the rear tires. There were no injuries reported on scene. Mr. Adams received a citation.
On 06/03/2023 at approximately 1:15pm State Police Trooper Goodwin responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 20 at milepost 34. Investigation showed the driver of a black Chevrolet Tahoe, identified as 38-year old Kyle R. Maples of Herriman Utah was passing in a no passing zone when it struck a blue Cadillac XT5 in the driver’s side door as the Cadillac was attempting to turn left into a driveway. Mr. Maples was cited for passing in a no passing zone. No injuries were reported on scene.
