The annual regional Point In Time Count (PIT) is right around the corner. The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a single* night in January. HUD requires that Continuum of Care (CoCs) conduct an annual count of people experiencing homelessness who are sheltered in emergency shelter, transitional housing, and Safe Havens on a single night. CoCs also must conduct a count of unsheltered people experiencing homelessness every other year in odd numbered years. Each count is planned, coordinated, and carried out locally. Rural areas have additional days for their counts.
This year the count logistics are being coordinated by the Housing Authority of Lincoln County, with support from Community Services Consortium. The count is a week long process stretching from January 22 – 31st. We are counting both sheltered and unsheltered throughout Lincoln County. The count is done through a secure mobile app (typically downloaded onto a telephone) and includes a brief survey.
The Housing Authority of Lincoln County is looking for volunteers throughout the county, with an emphasis on service providers that are currently working in the area of sheltering or houselessness. There is a short training involved, that includes instructions on using the mobile app and how to best implement the survey for different populations. If you are interested in participating please email krockwell@housinglincolncountyor.gov or Scott McKee at pitcount@communityservices.us
