On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 5:50 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 101, just south of Waldport in Lincoln County. The preliminary investigation indicated a Toyota Prius, operated by 77-year Gordon Eugene Dale of Waldport, attempted to turn left onto northbound Hwy 101. The Toyota entered the path of a southbound Subaru Outback, operated by 46-year old Boone Vikin Ogden of Seal Rock, and was struck in the driver's side door. Mr. Dale was transported and declared deceased at Samaritan Pacific Communities hospital. Ogden and two passengers suffered reported minor injuries. The highway was impacted for approximately 2.5 hours during the on-scene investigation. OSP was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and ODOT.
Another fatal crash occured on highway 101 in Tillamook County. On Monday, February 12, 2024, at 2:42 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 101 in Tillamook County. The preliminary investigation indicated a Mazda Speed, operated by 29-year old Devin Jay Eberle of Tumwater (WA), was northbound when it passed multiple vehicles in a no-passing zone while entering a corner. The Mazda entered the southbound lane and struck a southbound Toyota Sienna head-on. Eberle and his passenger, 26-year old Berkley Marie Erosky of Vancouver (WA), were declared deceased at the scene. The operator and passenger of the Toyota were transported to the Tillamook hospital for serious injuries. The highway was impacted for approximately 2.5 hours during the on-scene investigation. Speed and unlawful passing are considered primary contributing factors in the crash. OSP was assisted by Nehalem Fire, Rockaway Fire, Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, and Manzanita Police Department.
